Five Signs You Need a Roof Repair

Your roof is essential for keeping your property and your possessions safe and protected from the elements. So, it’s important to keep your roof in great condition. Most of the time, homeowners barely give their roof a second thought until there’s a problem, but the earlier you can repair a problem with your roof, the less expensive and extensive the repair is likely to be.

Here are five signs you need your roof repaired.

Leaking roof

This one is pretty obvious, right? If there’s water coming in through your roof, of course, it needs a repair. However, it’s amazing how often people don’t notice there’s a leak until that leak is a BIG problem. Being vigilant and checking your attic and ceilings for signs of leaks on a regular basis can help you catch and fix leaks quickly – before they become a serious problem.

Shingle damage

If your shingles are showing obvious signs of wear and tear or damage, then it’s time to get them replaced or repaired. Damaged or missing shingles can lead to a leaking roof, and the sooner you fix it, the better. Discolored, cracked or buckled shingles are a sure sign that your roof needs some TLC sooner rather than later.

Get into the habit of checking for missing, cracked or discolored shingles on a regular basis.

Moss growth

Moss can be a problem on roofs, causing shingles to become loose and even encouraging mold growth inside your home on the ceiling. In the winter, moss can cause weather-related damage to your roof because it holds a lot of moisture. When the weather drops and that moisture freezes and expands, your shingles can be damaged. Dark patches on your roof – where the shingles appear darker in color than the other areas can be a tell-tale sign of moss.

Higher energy bills

Are your energy bills suddenly higher than usual, and you can’t figure out why? Check your roof. A damaged roof will cause your home to lose heat very quickly. Some of these, like damaged flashing or torn underlayment, can be tricky to spot without a proper inspection, so call out the experts if you suspect your energy bill increases are roof-related.

Sagging roof

A sagging roof is NEVER a good sign. The problem could be any number of things: a foundation issue, a structural roof issue like cracked rafters or a termite problem, or the wrong roofing materials used. If you notice signs of a sagging roof, call in the experts straight away to check the cause and rectify it. If your roof looks like it is sagging, or appears ‘wavy’ when you look at it, don’t delay to call in the professionals!
